Using the 3 Priority Areas of the Teacher Practice Rubrics To Design and Refine Common Core Units:Cognitive engagement, constructivist learning and 21st century skills.

Purpose:

This series will facilitate the design and refinement of Common Core-aligned units and strengthen connections to the three priority areas of the NYSED approved Teacher Practice Rubrics: cognitive engagement, constructivist learning, and 21st century skills.

Outcomes:

  • Individually grounded and shared definitions of cognitive engagement, constructivist learning, and 21st century skills;

  • Articulation of additional quality curriculum attributes (as proposed by Learner-Centered Initiatives, 2011 ) that strengthen the three teacher practice priority areas;

  • Newly designed or refined Common Core-aligned tasks and/or units.
